MLB releases 2018 schedule, sets Opening Day for March 29

Major League Baseball released its schedule for the 2018 season Tuesday, and things will get underway a little earlier than anticipated.

Opening Day is set for Thursday, March 29, marking the earliest start date for a season in a North American ballpark. The 2008 and 2014 seasons started March 25 and March 22, respectively, though those early games were played overseas in Japan and Australia.

As well as starting the season earlier, all 30 clubs will also begin play on the same date, abandoning the two-day Opening Day format used in recent seasons. It's the first time since 1968 that the season will kick off for every team on one day, according to's Mark Feinsand.

Opening Day games:

Away Home
Yankees Blue Jays
Indians Mariners
Phillies Braves
Rockies Diamondbacks
Angels Athletics
Pirates Tigers
White Sox Royals
Cardinals Mets
Cubs Marlins
Astros Rangers
Twins Orioles
Red Sox Rays
Brewers Padres
Nationals Reds
Giants Dodgers

Jackie Robinson Day is scheduled for April 15, while the MLB draft will commence June 4. The All-Star Game, set for Nationals Park in Washington, will be played on July 17.

Kidd, Stotts named Coaches of the Month for March

The Milwaukee Bucks' Jason Kidd and the Portland Trail Blazers' Terry Stotts have been named Coaches of the Month for March in their respective conferences, the league announced Monday.

Kidd led Milwaukee to a 14-4 month that included a 7-2 mark at the Bradley Center. The Bucks sit fifth in the East after beginning the month just 10th in the conference, and looked poised to capture their second postseason berth in the last three seasons.

Portland went 13-3 in March under Stotts, including a 6-1 record away from the Moda Center. The Blazers rank eighth in the Western Conference, and are currently in the midst of a six-game winning streak.

It's the fourth Coach of the Month honor of Stotts' career, and Kidd's third.
